Bariloche city is located at the northern end of Patagonia in Argentina, at the south coastline of Nahuel Huapi lake, by the Cordillera of the Andes, which allows easy access to the mountain as well as to the patagonian steppe offering a wide variety of outdoor activities in the area. Bariloche city has a population of 120.000 inhabitants, has a service infrastructure with no comparison in any city of the Patagonia.

Transportation

The San Carlos de Bariloche city has a modern international airport, located just 11 km away from the downtown area, which connects the city with the rest of the country and the world. Santiago de Chile, Brazil and inbound destinations like Bahía Blanca, Comodoro Rivadavia, Córdoba, El Calafate, Esquel, Neuquén, Puerto Madryn, San Martín de los Andes, are different cities directly connected to the Bariloche airport.

the airport station has 12.000 m2 divided in two floors. At the lower floor are the national and international arrivals as well as the Rent a Car and taxi booths. At the upper floor are the airlines offices and the check in counters. There is also a wide variety of shops and restaurants with local specialties.

On the other hand, modern bus units have a wide net of connections though paved roads joining Bariloche with the lake district area and Chile.

After ski entertainment

Cerro Catedral ski resort has more than 100 km of ski courts and 600 hectares of skiing surface. But for those who after skiing all day want to continue entertaining (and still have the strength for it..) Bariloche has all the options to offer.

There are 200 dining facilities including restaurants, pubs, tea saloons and coffee shops offering local patagonian dishes such as trout, deer meet or wild boar, Patagonian Gourmet cuisine, curanto (regional specialty with several ingredients such as beef, pork, chicken meet, lamb, sausage, potatoes, suit potatoes, apples, hollowed pumpkin filled with cheese, cream and peas. All these ingredients coked under soil in the ground with hot ashes and cover with big nalca leafs.

The dishes variety is really wide, you can treat yourself with high class international cuisine with dishes like fondue and goulash; or with the traditional worldwide famous argentine barbecue 'asado'. The local breweries with homemade beer and smoked meet (deer, trout or boar) has it special charm. Great places to relax and enjoy chatting with your friends by a warm fireplace after a skiing day.

Cinemas, casinos and a wide variety of shows make Bariloche the most entertaining city in Patagonia. The discotheque are a chapter on its own, the best dance courts of south america undoubtedly specialist in night club entertainment.

Means of payment :

The local currency in Argentina is the Peso Argentino. It is convenient to exchange foreign currencies in Buenos Aires, in order to get the best exchange rates for the dollar or the Euro although in Bariloche the US dollar is widely accepted in shops though there are also exchange offices opened seven days a week. There are also widely accepted several international credit cards. We do not recommend using traveler checks because of the high cost of this and not much accepted.
